Bible Teaching on the Power of the Gospel
๐ง Memory Verse
Romans 1:16 โ
โFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believethโฆโ
๐ Teaching Section
Lesson 1 introduced the gospel as the good news of a new King and a new Kingdom. Lesson 2 continues by explaining what this gospel accomplishes, why it is powerful, and why there is only one gospel for all people and all times.
1. The Gospel Announces the Universal Kingship of Jesus
The gospel the apostles preached was never a private, personal, or tribal message. It was the public declaration that Jesus is Lord of all (Acts 10:36).
They announced that the risen Jesus had been:
- Enthroned as King
- Appointed as Judge over the nations
๐ See: Acts 2:32โ36; Acts 17:30โ31
This means the gospel is global in scope and demands allegiance from every human being, everywhere.
2. The Gospel Is Godโs Power to Save
Paul said the gospel is:
โThe power of God unto salvationโ (Romans 1:16)
This means Godโs saving power operates wherever the gospel is believed.
The gospel:
- Saves (1 Corinthians 15:2)
- Frees (Romans 6:17โ18)
- Justifies (Romans 5:1)
- Reconciles (2 Corinthians 5:18โ19)
- Gives life (John 20:31)
No human system, philosophy, or religion has the power to save.
Only the gospel does โ because only Jesus saves.
3. The Gospel Reveals the Righteousness of God
Paul adds:
โFor therein is the righteousness of God revealedโฆโ (Romans 1:17)
This means the gospel unveils Godโs way of making human beings righteous:
- Not by works
- Not by effort
- Not by law
But by faith.
From beginning to end, the gospel is a revelation of Godโs righteousness, not manโs.
4. There Is Only One Gospel in the New Testament
The New Testament uses many titles to describe the gospel:
- The gospel of God
- The gospel of Christ
- The gospel of the Kingdom
- The gospel of grace
- The gospel of peace
- The gospel of salvation
- The everlasting gospel
But Scripture never teaches multiple gospels for different groups (Jews vs Gentiles).
Paul warned strongly:
โIf any man preaches any other gospelโฆ let him be accursed.โ
โ Galatians 1:8โ9
There is only one gospel, revealed in Jesus Christ, for all people โ the gospel of the Kingdom.
5. The Gospel Demands Allegiance to the King
The gospel is a royal announcement, and royal announcements always require a response.
In the New Testament, the gospel calls humans to:
- Repent (Mark 1:15)
- Believe (John 3:16)
- Submit / obey the faith (Romans 1:5)
- Confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9)
- Follow Him (Luke 9:23)
The gospel calls us:
- From rebellion to obedience
- From sin to righteousness
- From self-rule to Christโs rule
6. The Gospel Creates a New People
Everywhere the gospel was preached, it created a new community โ the Church.
The church is the assembly of people who:
- Have responded to the gospel
- Have submitted to Jesus as King
๐ See: Acts 2:41โ42
This new community lives under:
- A new law โ the law of Christ
- A new power โ the Holy Spirit
- A new identity โ children of God
